About the Role

The Atikameg Healing Shelter for Women and Children will serve Indigenous women, and children escaping
harassment and family violence on Whitefish First Nation #459 and the surrounding area. The 6-unit 18 bed facility is currently under construction and the Executive Director will oversee 10 staff members. This position will be accountable to a Board of Directors, and regular reporting on shelter activities is requested.

Requirements

The Executive Director would have the following education background, experience and characteristics:

- University degree (preferable) or comparable formal educational work experience

(Preference given to registered social workers)

- Leadership skills and management experience

- Feminist analysis of the issue of gender-based violence

- Above average written and oral communication skills

- Experience in working in a unionized environment

- Non-judgmental attitudes and beliefs

- Active and empathetic listening skills

- Clear and well-defined personal boundaries

Duties and Responsibilites

Shelter Management
- Manage the day-to-day operations of the shelter
- schedule staff
- Develop income and expenditure reports
- Oversee daily work plans with staff
- Case planning for residents
- Assist in implementing additional programming in the shelter
- Identify maintenance needs and speak with service providers
- Oversee potential discipline of shelter residents when there has been a breach of shelter guidelines
- Ensure proper follow-up with past residents
- Answer crisis calls or participate in shelter intake, as needed
- Participate in ongoing risk assessment and safety planning for residents and shelter operation
Staff Supervision
- Oversee supervision of shelter staff
- Address performance issues among staff
- Regular debriefing with staff
Accountabilities
- Work with the Board of Directors.
- Regularly update Board of Directors on work in the shelter
- Keep Board of Directors informed on issues with staff or residents
